Kuivaniemi from Kivijärvi and Kinnula

Viesti Kirjoittaja sudden99 » 30.09.2016 00:13

Hello,

I am looking for two of my grandmothers sibblings and their family.
My grandmother was Eeva Maria Kuivaniemi Kinnunen Mattila born 30 march 1917 in Kinnula.
Her brother was Matti Onni Kuivaniemi born 10 october 1910 and her sister Sandra Ellen Kuivaniemi (married Muhonen) born 14 may 1913.
They were likely born in Kivijärvi or Kinnula.
Their parants was Juhu Viktor Kuivaniemi born 9 july 1886 in Kivijärvi and Saara Maria Lisakintytär born 10 nov 1890.

I am searching for more information on Matti Onni and Sandra Ellen Kuivaniemi.

Hope anyone can help me.

Thanks.

Joakim Mattila

It is difficult to search people within the 100 years' limitation we have in privacy in Finland.

But your Matti Onni may be the same as Onni Martti Kuivaniemi, as the birth date matches. He died between 1939-45 in Lestijärvi, and his birth place was Kinnula.
This comes out from this image: http://digi.narc.fi/digi/view.ka?kuid=42612879
- the information is from the so called Kela-cards, punctured cards before present computer time. It also says that he was married.

Kuivaniemi is not a such common name in Kinnula or Lestijärvi, and I peeked at the phone book, and found two Kuivaniemi persons in Lestijärvi, living in the same address. The names of both point at older persons, so if you try to contact them, you must have a Finnish speaking person on the phone. Or rather, send them a letter, in Finnish. I can give the names and address by private mail, if you want to.

Of Sandra Muhonen I did not find anything. There are plenty of Muhonens in Kinnula.

If that Lestijärvi connection does not work, there are two choices left for you: to write to Kinnula Parish, http://www.kinnulanseurakunta.fi/info-ja-asiointi (email them and ask about the family information, it costs some and takes some time, too) or to make a summer trip to the area, starting from the graveyard/parish, then asking around. Most younger people speak some English. In general, people know their grandparents' names so well in the countryside that you may bump into distant cousins. (I have a very good example of this. A bunch of American siblings went to ask around about their family in many villages, finally got to THE place and the local shop. The girl at the shop immidiately knew the family names, and within a couple of hours, they had many third cousins meeting them!)

Good luck!

Hi Tuula,

Thanks for your answer.
You helped me alot. I have sent email to both Kinnula and Lestijärvi.
They usually are very helpful.

I am indeed planning a trip to Finland next summer and are very exited about that.
I have been able to find my fathers cousins and hope to find alot more before next year.

Thanks again.

Regards
Joakim Mattila

Hello again,

I forgot to say that I would very much like the name and adress to Kuivaniemi in Lestijärvi if you have them.

Thanks.
