Dead 5.3.1903. Buried 15.3.1903. ?? Book page number 78. The name of village Jokikylä. Profession is difficult but I think it would be guardian in a forrest. Cause of death is paralysis. The day of birth is 31.10.1864 and he was widow. Age 38 year 4 month 5 days. And last is the sex: he was man.

I hope someone correct if I'm wrong.

Here I would not translate halvaus to paralysis, but to stroke (like a cerebral hemorrage or somesuch). In Swedish this cause of death is usually noted as slag which has most of the meanings of the English word stroke, but as I understand it, paralysis means rather a condition, like a neck injury that does not kill you, but leaves you paralyzed. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you Eeva. I thought it was a stroke when I saw paralysis. But, back then I would think that if a person were to fall and sustain a severe neck injury it would leave them paralyzed and impair their breathing which would lead to their death. Today we have medical intervention that keeps the person breathing, but back then there would be no surviving.
Thanks again,
Janice
